The Green House is a very intricate, natural home that incorporates a range of natural building techniques. It is divided into three sections, spread across a sloped site facing east:
The main section of the house is a strawbale octagonal structure at the top of the slope, housing a kitchen dining, bedroom, loft, bathroom and lounge area.
Then connected to the main section, is a central light-earth and cob greenhouse that will be used to grow vegetation and food supply.
This then leads to the third lower structure, a submerged, double level, earth-bermed, superadobe art studio. The art studio will be used as an exhibition space, performance area, Airbnb dual-income alternative.
Although the structure does span a large area of 171m2, IBD's strategy to submerge and integrate the building within the landscape coupled with natural building materials/ techniques results in the Green House feeling like an extension of its natural surroundings rather than being awkward or brazen.
The structure has been constructed by both our Mudtec team and volunteer workshops it is projected to have construction completed by the end of 2021.
